[AKN #127] The end is nigh
LIVE: Quality Of Friends > Quantity Of Friends, LAUGH: Can Happen To Anyone, LOVE: Dope Nuclear Fusion Company
Sup homies?
The other day I got the email that you never want to receive.
As my pupils moved down the screen, I felt my heart race and I was overcome with a feeling of impending doom.
Because on that day, I was informed of the following news:
That’s right.
The culture war has arrived at my doorstep…
…or is this the greatest phishing scam the world has ever seen?
I mean who wouldn’t click this link??
Click in and now you are chatting with “Sabrina” a “Simon Fraser University post doc” who misspells every sixth word.
Before you know it, you are negotiating a hefty price for her to pull her publication from Gender & Society.
You agree on a price. Only catch is she only accepts transactions on the blockchain.
So you pony up 4500 Macaulay Culkin tokens and 23 NFTs of an impressionist nude painting of Emilio Estevez for her silence.
Whatever.
Better than having my employer open up The New York Times and be like:
What I am getting at is that I certainly thought twice about clicking this link.
But after taking the necessary precautions of changing my name, packing up a single duffle bag of clothing, and leaving my old life behind, I swallowed my pride and thought “welp, better find out what joke they took out of context.”
So in I clicked.
And you know what I found?
A PAYWALL
And not just any paywall, homies.
A paywall informing me that there are 108 ADDITIONAL papers that mention Kevin Rapp.
And for the low low price of $249 a year, I can own the entire set of Simon Fraser's A Series of Unfortunate Publications.
Fucking capitalism, bro.
So yea.
On an obviously unrelated note, I’ve decided to open up my Substack to accept donations.
I hope you will find it in your heart to pledge a recurring payment and we will find out what that paper says about me together.
On to the newsletter!

Not to get all empowered sounding, but I agree a lot with this quote.
Unrelated, I also agree a lot with this quote:
LAUGH: Can Happen To Anyone
LOVE: Dope Nuclear Fusion Company
This is probably the most compelling company trying to make nuclear fusion happen.
CLOSING TIME
A call to action to help me build a community of homies

All in all I’m just another brick in the paywall,
